Ololade Ayelabola breaks world record for longest catwalk

Ololade Ayelabola, a student at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), has set a new Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest distance walked by a model.

On October 1, Ayelabola embarked on her record-breaking attempt at the indoor sports centre of UNILAG, initially aiming for 120 kilometers. She not only reached that goal but also continued to walk an additional 10 kilometers, completing a remarkable total of 130.62 kilometers, which amounts to 2,058 laps within the sports facility.

In an Instagram post on Monday, Ayelabola shared her motivation for this achievement, stating, “I’m not walking for myself alone. I am walking for many models who have been limited by stereotypes and standards set by rigid systems. I am also walking to showcase the creativity of the Nigerian fashion industry.”

Her accomplishment is now subject to verification and confirmation by the GWR. This milestone comes after the previous record was set by Roberta Brown and Lorraine McCourt, who walked 114.4 kilometers (71.1 miles) in Dublin, Ireland, on September 21, 1983.
