PDP crisis deepens as Atiku backs Damagum’s removal
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is grappling with an escalating leadership crisis, as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar joins the chorus calling for the removal of Umar Damagum as acting National Chairman.
Atiku’s media aide, Paul Ibeh, revealed that the former Vice President’s primary concern is to refocus the PDP on its founding principles.
This development has created a rift among the 13 PDP governors, with seven governors pushing for Damagum’s removal and four others supporting his retention.
Damagum’s leadership has been criticized for failing to implement essential reforms, violating the party’s constitution, and transferring control of the Rivers State PDP structure to Nyesom Wike instead of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The crisis took another turn with the suspension of Ali Odefa, National Vice Chairman for the South East zone, by the PDP in Oguduokwor Ward, Ebonyi State, due to alleged anti-party activities.
