On Sunday, September 29, troops from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), part of Operation Hadin Kai, successfully stopped an attempted attack by ISWAP (Islamic State of West Africa Province) terrorists near the Magumeri-Maiduguri road.
The soldiers executed a tactical ambush, catching the insurgents off guard and preventing them from harming innocent civilians. Lt.-Col. Olaniyi Osaba, Chief Military Information Officer for the MNJTF, reported that the troops set up strategically along the terrorists’ route and engaged them as they came out of a nearby forest on motorcycles.
“When the terrorists saw our troops, they tried to escape but were met with heavy gunfire,” Osaba explained. “This strong response forced them to leave behind their weapons and motorcycles, disrupting their plans to cause violence in the area.”
The operation led to the recovery of several weapons, including two AK-47 rifles, 51 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and 61 rounds of 7.62 NATO ammunition, as well as items like parcels of marijuana and Tramadol. The troops’ quick action helped maintain peace and security in the region.
