Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has expressed concern over the impact of Rodri’s injury on Manchester City’s Premier League title aspirations.
The midfielder sustained ligament damage during a match against Arsenal, and it has been confirmed that he will be sidelined for an extended period.
Speaking to BetFair, Shearer emphasized the significance of losing a player of Rodri’s caliber. “There’s no doubt that a potential season-ending injury to Rodri will have an impact on Man City’s title hopes,” he stated.
He continued, “It’s one thing knowing you’re not having him for two or three games, like they had at the beginning of the season, but it’s another thing knowing that he’s probably not going to come back this season. That’s a big blow.”
Shearer acknowledged the resources available to City, but he reiterated that losing a player of Rodri’s quality for such a long duration would undoubtedly hurt the team. “I don’t care who you are and what resources you’ve got; when you lose a player of that calibre and quality, there’s no doubt it’ll hurt them.”
