Nigerians are suffering, urgent help needed – Orji Kalu to Tinubu

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Privatization, has expressed deep concerns about the hardships facing Nigerians and urgently called on President Bola Tinubu to provide relief for the people.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Kalu, a former governor of Abia State, stated, “The hardship is real; people are suffering. We have hundreds of thousands of workers, including about 10,000 in our group that we run. We need to pay those salaries. The costs of flying and maintaining a private plane can reach up to $20,000.”

He added, “In my village, everywhere I go, companies are struggling. I appeal to the federal government and the President to act quickly to bring succor to Nigerians. He must do something, not just yesterday, but today—because the situation is tough for our people. No elected president wants his citizens to suffer.”

Kalu emphasized his commitment to supporting workers, stating, “I told my colleagues that my sacrifices are for the good of the company. I decided to fly commercial to save money for restructuring our workforce in Nigeria and West Africa so that everyone can have food during this difficult time.”

He praised President Tinubu’s courage in implementing reforms, saying, “What he is doing now has not happened in the last 60 years. No other president has dared to take such bold actions.”

Regarding the recent Edo State gubernatorial election, Kalu noted, “The national chairman and our senators worked hard for Edo, and I believe that those who put in the effort deserve to win. Elections are about numbers; when you have the numbers, you win. INEC has declared the winner, and they deserve it because they are the most organized party.”

Addressing rumors about his health during his trip abroad, Kalu clarified, “I was fine. I took permission from the Senate President about a week before the Senate closed to study at a university, paying for my own courses on democracy and the economy. I didn’t die or go for a medical check-up, but if people think I have, we give thanks to God.”
