On Monday, September 23, President Bola Tinubu congratulated Senator Monday Okpebholo, the new governor-elect of Edo State. He advised Okpebholo to see his victory not as a reason to celebrate too much but as an important call to serve the people.

In a statement from his Special Adviser, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu said that Okpebholo’s win shows the people’s support for the ruling party and its commitment to improving lives in Nigeria.

Senator Okpebholo, from the All Progressives Congress (APC), was announced as the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday, September 22.

He also recognized the other candidates in the election for their efforts in supporting Nigeria’s democracy, saying that peaceful elections show that Nigeria is becoming a stable democracy. Tinubu encouraged anyone unhappy with the results to use legal channels to express their concerns.

Additionally, he thanked the people of Edo State for their calm and orderly behavior during the election, highlighting how far Nigeria’s democracy has come in 25 years. He appreciated INEC and security agencies for working hard to make the election peaceful and successful.
