#EdoDecides2024: Labour Party candidate Olumide Akpata casts vote
On Saturday, September 21, Olumide Akpata, the candidate for the Labour Party (LP) in the Edo State gubernatorial election, cast his vote at Oredo Ward 6, Unit 11. With a big smile on his face, he seemed hopeful about the outcome of the election.
As he voted, Akpata waved to the crowd cheering him on, giving them a thumbs-up in return.
The former chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) addressed recent rumors claiming he had stepped down from the race. He urged his supporters to continue backing him and not to vote for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
In a press conference at his office, Akpata said, “This falsehood is illustrative of the evil machinations of those who have held our State captive for a quarter of a century and demonstrates the shallowness that has characterised their governance style.”
He added, “Let me be unequivocally clear: I AM STILL IN THIS RACE. The notion that I would step down on the eve of the election, after the overwhelming support received from the good people of our State, borders on delusion.”
