CANEX WKND 2024: Africa’s largest creative industry gathering to feature Amapiano legends, Ayra Starr

Africa’s biggest gathering of creative industry professionals, CANEX WKND 2024, will be held from October 16-19, 2024, in Algiers, Algeria. The event is set to bring together top stakeholders in Africa’s cultural and creative industries, with a focus on elevating African creatives on the global stage.

A key highlight of the event will be the CANEX Concert, scheduled for October 17, 2024. The concert, open exclusively to registered CANEX WKND delegates, promises an electrifying experience with performances from some of Africa’s most prominent artists.

Leading the lineup are South African AmaPiano legends, Scorpion Kings, composed of Kabza de Small and DJ Maphorisa. The duo, known for their pioneering role in shaping the AmaPiano genre, will deliver their signature blend of DJ production and songwriting that has made them a powerful force in the South African music scene.

Joining them is Kenya’s rising star Sofiya Nzau, whose unique melodies blend African traditions and contemporary sounds, promoting unity and love across the continent. Another highlight will be the much-anticipated return of Tinariwen, the legendary Tuareg music collective from the Sahara region. Known for their unique fusion of traditional Tuareg music and Western rock, Tinariwen will make their long-awaited return to the Algerian stage after years of absence.

Benin-born Nigerian superstar Ayra Starr will also grace the stage. Known for her breakout single “Away” and as a rising voice in the Afrobeats scene, Starr made history as the youngest African female artist to surpass 100 million views on a single video on YouTube.

The theme for CANEX WKND 2024 is “One People, United in Culture, Creating for the World,” emphasizing the importance of cultural unity and global collaboration. The event will feature industry experts, government agencies, and investors working together to find solutions to the challenges facing Africa’s cultural and creative sectors.

CANEX WKND will also include film screenings, fashion shows, exhibitions, and business networking opportunities. Attendance is free, but the concert is accessible only to pre-registered guests. This gathering is designed to celebrate Africa’s cultural diversity and encourage collaboration, technological innovation, and business growth within the creative industries.
