Edo governorship election: Obaseki alleges APC’s rigging plans, bias in police

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has raised alarm over alleged plans by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to rig Saturday’s governorship election.

In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Obaseki claimed the APC has perfected plans to manipulate the election outcome in their favor.

The governor expressed lack of confidence in the police, accusing them of bias. “If you see the evidence of what they have done, the blatant way they have gone about it… They should just be a bit more professional and unbiased,” Obaseki said.

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, in solidarity with Obaseki, stated that the APC has resorted to intimidation tactics as they know they will be “beaten mercilessly” by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Wike asserted that the APC has nothing to offer Edo people.

Obaseki initially sparked controversy with his “do or die” comment regarding the election. Clarifying, he said it’s a “do or die” affair because if the APC takes over, “the level of impunity, the level of recklessness… if they take over Edo state, finished – that is the end.”

The election is set to be a crucial test for Obaseki’s leadership and the state’s future.
