Red Cross seeks $2.5 million to help flood victims in Borno

On Tuesday, September 17, the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) announced that they are asking for $2.5 million in donations to support flood victims in Borno State, located in northeastern Nigeria.

Prince Adeaga, the President of the NRCS, shared that these funds will help provide shelter, food, and support for 4,500 families in need. He emphasized, “We urgently need the support of individuals, organizations, and the international community to help us reach those in desperate need. Every donation will make a difference and could save a life.”

Earlier in September, severe flooding affected many people in Borno, leaving them without basic necessities like clean water, food, and shelter. The NRCS has sent disaster response teams to the area to assist those impacted.

A team is currently in Maiduguri, working on building temporary shelters and offering emotional support to people affected by the floods in Damboa, Bayo, Jere, and Maiduguri. They aim to help families rebuild their lives.

“The situation on the ground is critical, with many families struggling to survive,” Mr. Adeaga said. “The Nigerian Red Cross is on the front lines, delivering emergency relief such as food, water, first aid, and temporary shelter to those who have lost their homes. However, the scale of the disaster far exceeds the resources currently available.”

He added that many families are living in makeshift shelters or out in the open, and donations will help provide safe housing and essential items like blankets and clothing to protect vulnerable communities.

The NRCS is urging everyone to contribute to this important cause. Donations can be made through their official website or by contacting their fundraising team directly at info@redcrossnigeria.org.

“Every Naira counts in this moment of crisis. By coming together, we can provide the relief and hope that these communities desperately need,” the statement concluded.
