Augsburg manager Thorup praises new signing Onyeka after debut

On Monday, September 16, Augsburg manager Jess Thorup praised Frank Onyeka for his standout debut in the club’s 3-1 victory over St. Pauli.

Onyeka, who joined Augsburg from Premier League club Brentford on a season-long loan deal, made an immediate impact by providing an assist during the match. Despite having only trained with his new team twice and being involved in international matches, Thorup was impressed with Onyeka’s performance.

“He (Onyeka) only trained twice and was involved in the international matches,” Thorup said after the game. “From the start, he showed us what a good player he is. He is ready to help the team, and that’s what he did today.”

Thorup also noted that while Onyeka’s performance was impressive, a goal would have been the icing on the cake. “Maybe the only thing missing was the goal at the end, although he had an assist and played very well. For a first game, it was really an outstanding game,” he added.
