Plateau Assembly Speaker finally swears in APC lawmakers after nearly a year

On Wednesday, September 11, Gabriel Dewan, the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, swore in the last five members of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

This event happened almost a year after the Appeal Court decided that the APC candidates had won their 2023 elections. The court’s decision came in November 2023, when it removed all the lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and declared the APC candidates as winners.

The PDP lawmakers were removed because their party didn’t have the right structure to choose them as candidates.

Although some APC lawmakers were sworn in earlier in April 2024, the final five members—Owen Dagogot (Quan Pan North), Theodore Maiyaki (Quan Pan South), Yakubu Sanda (Pengana), Dachung Dadon (Riyom), and Dalyop Gyang (Shendam South)—were only officially sworn in on Wednesday, September 11, 2024.
