NAFDAC warns young Nigerians about unsafe soap and medicines
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has recently warned people in Nigeria about a popular bar soap and some medicines that might be harmful.
On Monday, September 9, NAFDAC shared a warning through their X account, letting everyone know that the Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap from Germany might have dangerous chemicals that could hurt people’s health.
This soap was found to contain Butylphenyl Methylpropional (BMHCA), which is not safe for use because it could harm reproductive organs, affect unborn babies, and cause skin problems.
NAFDAC said that the affected Dove soap has a batch number of 81832M 08 and was recalled by German authorities due to these chemical issues. The warning was first posted on NAFDAC’s website on August 30 and then shared on X on September 9.
The specific soap to be careful about is the “Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap,” made in Germany with the barcode number 8000700000005. It’s listed as a cosmetic product. NAFDAC also mentioned other Dove products that have been recalled in different countries and warned Nigerians to avoid using them.
In addition, NAFDAC highlighted that there are 13 types of medicines from the Philippines that have been flagged by their authorities. These medicines, which have not been registered properly, include:
– Niaosu Ruangao
– Compound Bismuth Subnitrate Tablets
– Cimetidine Injection 2ml:0.2g Ampoule

NAFDAC noted that the Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had warned against these medicines because they haven’t been registered or approved properly.
This means their safety and effectiveness are not guaranteed, and using them could be dangerous.
NAFDAC emphasized that using unregistered or fake medicines can be harmful and might even cause serious health problems or death.
They advised people to be careful and make sure they buy medicines from trusted sources. If anyone suspects a problem with medicines or has concerns, they should report it to NAFDAC by calling 0800-162-3322 or emailing sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng.
