AFCON 2025 qualifier: Troost-Ekong confident in Super Eagles’ readiness for Rwanda
On Monday, September 9, Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong expressed confidence in his team’s ability to secure a victory against Rwanda in their AFCON 2025 qualifier.
The match will take place at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on Tuesday.
Troost-Ekong, making his first visit to Rwanda, noted the warm reception and acknowledged the strength of the Rwandan team. He said, “It’s my first time in Rwanda, the reception was great. We are here on a mission, we know Rwanda have a good team, we respect them. They currently top our group in the World Cup qualifiers.”
He added, “We are looking forward to a great game tomorrow. The boys are ready, everyone is highly motivated. We hope the fans will see a good match tomorrow.”
The Al-Khaloood defender emphasized that the Super Eagles are in Kigali with the objective of securing maximum points. He stated, “We came here with an objective which is to win the game. We are very happy to have coach Augustine Eguavoen back with us, also at this important time.”
Troost-Ekong acknowledged the absence of some regular team members but assured that the team is well-prepared. “We are one big family. It’s a full house, we are ready for whatever Rwanda will throw at us,” he added.
Discussing fan expectations, he noted, “We are expected to win every game, and we are motivated to win this game. The game against Benin Republic was good for us, but we expect things to be tough this time around. You can’t compare Benin and Rwanda. It’s going to be a huge challenge. A game away from home. They will be playing in front of their fans. It will be a huge challenge for us.”
