Protest continues over alleged imposition of PDP women’s leader in Taraba
Thousands of women have taken to the streets to protest the alleged imposition of Lois Emmanuel as the Women’s Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba.
The protest began last week at the Jolly Nyame Stadium following the announcement of Lois Emmanuel, a former Commissioner of Information and Reorientation, as the party’s new Women’s Leader. The demonstrations continued on Friday, September 6.
Carrying placards with various messages, the women claimed that Lois was imposed on them by certain party members. They argued that Lois was not their preferred candidate and called on the state governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, to urgently intervene.
The protesters believe that prompt action from the governor could prevent further division and internal conflicts within the party.
“We want the right thing to be done in time to save the party from collapsing and losing the 2027 general election in our dear state,” the women said.
When contacted, the party’s spokesperson, Andeta’rang Iremea, mentioned that the party would soon release a statement regarding the ongoing protests.
Earlier, the women had disrupted the state Congress when Lois’s appointment as the party’s Women’s Leader was announced by the Congress chairman.
