Ondo PDP urges Tinubu and security chiefs to prevent election-related violence

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has called on President Bola Tinubu and various security officials to ensure there are no security issues leading up to the governorship election on November 16.

In a statement released in Akure, the state capital, Ayo Fadaka, the spokesperson for the PDP’s campaign organization, urged the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the Department of State Security, and other security agency heads to pay close attention to any activities that might lead to security problems in the state.

Fadaka criticized Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration for planning to involve Musiliu Akinsanya, also known as Oluomo, in the election process. He accused the governor of trying to disrupt the peace in Ondo State as the election approaches.

He also raised concerns about the appointment of a private security firm, Global Olabod Resources, which he claimed might be used for ballot snatching and intimidating voters. Fadaka suggested that the Amotekun Security Network should handle the security tasks instead.

Fadaka called for the immediate cancellation of the appointment of these private security operatives, warning that their activities could provoke a strong response from the people.

The statement read, “We alert President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that members of his party may be preparing to cause unrest in Ondo State. As Commander in Chief, he must act quickly to address this issue.”

He emphasized that any disruption in Ondo State would have serious repercussions nationwide and called on the APC to adhere to the rules. “We are committed to a fair election and warn that any deviation from the rules could lead to chaos. Our civility should not be mistaken for weakness.”

Fadaka reassured that the PDP is determined to win the governorship election fairly and urged opponents to also follow the rules.

In response, Steve Otaloro, the Director of Media & Publicity for Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration, dismissed the PDP’s claims as false and intended to tarnish the governor’s reputation. Otaloro described the accusations as baseless and emphasized that the governor’s commitment to peace and security in Ondo State is steadfast.

“We reject any suggestion that Governor Aiyedatiwa is involved in causing security breaches. All actions taken by the government are legitimate efforts to improve security in the state. We also reject attempts to link the governor to any violence or intimidation,” Otaloro said.

He urged the PDP to focus on constructive campaigning rather than making unfounded allegations and assured the public that Governor Aiyedatiwa remains dedicated to fulfilling his campaign promises and ensuring a peaceful and fair election on November 16.
