FG and ASUU begin talks to prevent a strike

The Federal Government (FG) and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have started a crucial meeting in Abuja on Monday, August 26. This meeting comes after ASUU threatened to strike due to the government’s alleged failure to address their demands.

Education Minister Prof. Tahir Mamman had announced last Friday, August 23, during his one-year briefing, that a meeting with ASUU representatives was scheduled for Monday. However, the meeting did not take place as planned, with no reasons provided for the delay.

The ongoing discussions aim to avoid another nationwide strike that could affect public universities across Nigeria.

ASUU’s delegation, led by President Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke and including former ASUU presidents such as Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, is meeting at the Conference Hall of the Federal Ministry of Education. The Minister of Education and senior officials from the Ministry are also present.

Details will be updated as the meeting progresses.
