Supreme Court upholds Uzodinma’s election, dismisses appeals LP, PDP

The Supreme Court has dismissed separate appeals from the Labour Party (LP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging the election of Hope Uzodinma as the governor of Imo State.

The appeals, filed by LP’s gubernatorial candidate Athan Achonu and PDP’s Samuel Anyawu, were rejected due to lack of merit. The Supreme Court’s decision confirms Uzodinma’s position as the duly elected governor of Imo State.

In the lead judgment delivered by Justice Mohammed Baba Idris, the court found that both Achonu and Anyawu failed to provide sufficient evidence to support their claims of overvoting and other electoral malpractices during the November 11, 2023 election.

The Supreme Court’s unanimous ruling upheld the previous judgments of the Court of Appeal and the Imo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which had earlier dismissed the petitions against Uzodinma’s election.

Further details will be provided later.
