13 killed in bandit attacks in Shiroro LGA – Niger Humanitarian Affairs Ministry

The Niger State Ministry for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management has confirmed that at least 13 people have been killed and several others injured in recent attacks by bandits in Bassa and Anguwan Magiro communities, Shiroro Local Government Area (LGA).

The information was shared in a statement by Habibu Wushishi, Director of Media and Strategy for the Ministry. The statement detailed the extensive damage inflicted by the bandits, who destroyed shops and left the affected farming villages in chaos.

“Over 12 neighboring villages are currently seeking refuge at the Erena IDP camp, and their exact numbers are still being determined,” the statement said.

Wushishi noted that there have been no reports of abductions in this attack.

“The Commissioner and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management express their deepest condolences to the families of the victims, the Shiroro Local Government, and all Nigeriens,” the statement added.

Earlier in the year, on April 25, villagers from Allawa and surrounding areas in Shiroro LGA fled their homes following an increase in insecurity after the withdrawal of soldiers stationed in the region.
