Court issues injunction blocking PDP from holding congresses in Benue

A Benue State High Court in Makurdi has issued an injunction barring the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from conducting its state congress in Benue State.

The court’s decision halts the PDP’s planned state congress until further notice. The injunction follows a lawsuit filed by plaintiffs, including Igbawuwa Andover Alfred, against the PDP and its key officials: the Acting National Chairman, National Organising Secretary, and the Benue State Caretaker Committee Chairman.

Justice Theresa Igoche granted the interim injunction after hearing the application on Thursday, August 22. The plaintiffs, represented by F.T. Anongo and others, sought to prevent the PDP national officials from proceeding with the congress scheduled for August 31.

In addition, Justice Igoche ordered that no list from the Ward and local government congresses in various areas, including Makurdi, Vandeikya, Ukum, and others, be recognized by the party.
