PDP crisis: Acting chairman Umar Damagum vows to stay put despite pressure
Ambassador Umar Damagum, the acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has declared that no amount of intimidation will force him to resign from his position.
Damagum made the statement during the inauguration of the National Reconciliation and Disciplinary Committees. He criticized those spreading false information about the National Working Committee’s (NWC) operations and stated that the calls for his resignation only serve to boost his popularity.
“Let me send a message to everyone talking about Damagum this, Damagum that – I cannot be intimidated. The more you mention me, the more popular I become,” Damagum asserted.
Earlier in the week, there were reports that the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) might take action against Damagum and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu due to an alleged letter sent to the Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt.
This letter was interpreted by some party leaders as anti-party activity, leading to calls for sanctions against both Damagum and Anyanwu.
