Wike-Fubara feud: Wike rules out reconciliation, says there’s no going back
Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has firmly ruled out any possibility of reconciling with Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State.
In a media briefing marking his one year as FCT Minister on Wednesday, August 21, Wike declared that he is steadfast in his decision regarding Fubara and will not revisit the matter.
Wike, who has been at odds with Fubara since the governor took office, stated that his primary focus is on fulfilling the mandate given to him by President Bola Tinubu, rather than supporting Fubara.
The ongoing rift between Wike and Fubara has had significant repercussions, including creating factions within the state House of Assembly. Despite various attempts by Tinubu and other key political figures to mediate, the conflict remains unresolved.
Wike commented: “I fought for Fubara to become governor with no regrets. If he now chooses to distance himself, that’s his decision. For instance, Aregbesola was once supported by Tinubu but is no longer aligned with him.
“I’m telling you clearly, there is no turning back on this. My focus is solely on the mandate given to me by President Tinubu in the FCT.”
He added, “I’m not concerned about the fallout because I’m dedicated to my role and responsibilities in the FCT.”
