Pat Nevin tells Chelsea midfielder to step up defensively
Chelsea legend Pat Nevin has called on Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez to improve his defensive contributions to the team.
Nevin’s comments came after Chelsea’s 2-0 loss to Manchester City on Sunday, August 18, Fernandez, who was captaining Chelsea in place of Reece James, couldn’t prevent the defeat as Erling Haaland and Mateo Kovacic scored for City.
“Enzo has been very, very quiet in that number 10 position,” Nevin said on BBC Radio 5 Live. “You have to be central to everything in that position. If you’re Conor Gallagher, you’d be thinking you can do better than that.”
He added, “Enzo is not coming back and covering the space, and he’s not doing much going forward either. He has to do more for the team defensively.”
