Osun PDP calls for peace as primaries are held

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has called on its members to maintain peace and uphold high standards as the party prepares for its primary elections.

Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, made this appeal in a statement on Friday, August 16.

The party is gearing up to conduct primary elections for candidates seeking local government councilor positions on Saturday, August 17. These primaries will take place across all 332 wards in the state.

Additionally, the chairmanship primaries for the party are scheduled for Monday, August 19, across the 30 local government headquarters in Osun.

Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) has set February 22, 2025, for the local government elections in the state. The upcoming primaries will select candidates for chairmanship and councilorship positions in the 30 local government areas.

Bisi urged all aspirants and their supporters to cooperate with electoral and security officials overseeing the primaries. He emphasized that the State Working Committee will not tolerate any form of violence during or after the elections.

In his statement, Bisi said, “I urge supporters of all prospective candidates to adhere to the law and party guidelines during the primaries on Saturday and Monday. Violence has no place in our party, especially in such a constitutional exercise.”

He added that the party has put measures in place to ensure a smooth process, in line with the directives of party leader, His Excellency, Asiwaju Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, from the recent stakeholders meeting.

“We are confident that this process will select the best candidates and lead to victory for our party in the upcoming local government elections,” Bisi stated.

He also warned that any aspirants who fail to follow the party’s guidelines, the electoral act, or the constitution would be disqualified, emphasizing the party’s commitment to discipline and the rule of law.
