One police officer killed as gunmen attack police van in Nnewi

On Friday, August 9, gunmen targeted a police van in Nnewi, Anambra State, resulting in the death of one police officer. The attack occurred around 9 am at Omata Junction, Uruagu community, along the Nnewi-Oba road.

According to reports, after the initial assault, the attackers threw an improvised explosive device at the police team. The state police command confirmed the incident in a statement released by SP Tochukwu Ikenga.

SP Ikenga stated that Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has launched a manhunt for the perpetrators. He added, “The manhunt operation, led by the Assistant Commissioner in charge of Nnewi Area Command, is collaborating with local residents to identify and capture the attackers.”
