Insecurity: Ogun shells out land to Navy to build base, dockyard

The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, announced plans to build a Naval Base and Dockyard in Ogun State to secure key investments. This was revealed during a visit from Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun at the Naval Headquarters.

Vice Admiral Ogalla explained that Ogun’s role as an industrial hub makes it crucial for the Navy to be present to protect new investments. He emphasized the need for a Certificate of Occupancy to start construction immediately.

He said, “Ogun State is crucial for our operations. The governor’s proposals, like the molecular LNG project and ‘Tongaji’ Island development, will attract significant investment. These projects need security, and we’re committed to establishing the Naval Base swiftly.”

Governor Abiodun presented documents allocating 100 hectares of land to the Navy and highlighted Ogun’s emerging role in oil exploration. He noted, “Ogun State is set to become an oil-producing area, and with our new frontier status, we need a Naval Base and Dockyard for protection.”

He also mentioned the LNG project and the need for naval security due to global natural gas shortages. “With oil exploration and major projects on the horizon, having a naval presence is essential,” he added.
