7 feared dead, dozens burnt as petrol tanker explodes in Suleja

At least seven people have been feared dead, and over 80 others severely burnt following a petrol tanker explosion along Maje-Dikko Road in Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State.

The tragic incident reportedly occurred on Saturday morning when a petrol tanker caught fire while fuel was being transferred to another tanker.

An eyewitness who spoke to our correspondent said, “A tanker coming from the Minna side of the road fell over. Another tanker arrived to transfer the fuel, but unfortunately, it ignited and went up in flames.

“Most of the dead victims were burnt beyond recognition while others sustained severe injuries.”

It was gathered that emergency responders, including operatives of the Federal Fire Service and other security agencies, are at the scene of the incident containing the inferno.

Attempts to get the reaction of the state police public relations officer, Wasiu Abiodun, was unsuccessful as he did not respond to our reporter’s calls.
