Governor Okpebholo reaches out to Ighodalo after tribunal victory, calls for unity

After his victory was upheld by the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on Wednesday, April 2, Governor Monday Okpebholo has extended an olive branch to Asue Ighodalo, the candidate from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Okpebholo invited Ighodalo to join forces in building a stronger and more prosperous Edo State.
In a statement from Okpebholo’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, the governor expressed his gratitude to the people of Edo State, saying he dedicated his victory to them for believing in his leadership during the September 21, 2024, election.
The statement read: “The Tribunal, after a thorough and impartial review of all petitions brought by the opposition, has dismissed all claims, affirming that the election was conducted in line with the Electoral Act and that Governor Monday Okpebholo was duly elected.”
This ruling, according to Okpebholo, proves the strong support of the citizens and confirms the integrity of the election process. “It reaffirms the will of the people and validates our democratic system,” the statement continued.
Governor Okpebholo expressed his sincere thanks to the Tribunal for their fairness and to the people of Edo State for their ongoing trust. He added, “This victory is not mine alone, but a victory for every citizen and resident of Edo State. It’s a mandate to continue the work we have started to build a state where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. We remain committed to good governance, transparency, and inclusive development.”
The governor’s spokesman, Fred Itua, also shared that Okpebholo is calling on all citizens, including the opposition and Ighodalo, to unite and work together for the state’s progress. “It’s time to put aside partisan differences and focus on building a better future for Edo State,” the statement urged.
Okpebholo’s administration, Itua emphasized, will continue to focus on delivering its promises to the people and will not be distracted by unnecessary legal battles. The governor’s commitment to serving Edo State with dedication and integrity remains unwavering.
