2027: Ayom backs Tinubu’s second term bid, warns against halting economic reforms

As political momentum builds toward the 2027 presidential election, Chief Moses Ayom, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former presidential aspirant, has thrown his full weight behind the endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party’s sole candidate.
Ayom, who vied for the APC’s presidential ticket in 2023, described the unanimous backing by 22 APC governors and members of the National Assembly as a powerful validation of the President’s ongoing economic and policy reforms.
“President Tinubu deserves a second term to consolidate the positive reforms his administration has commenced,” Ayom stated on Tuesday, May 27. “While the changes may have come with some initial pains, they are aimed at long-term national transformation. The President means well for our great country.”
He warned that reversing Tinubu’s reform agenda would be a “tragic mistake”, stressing the importance of policy continuity to sustain recent economic gains.

Ayom, who also serves as Managing Director/CEO of the Federal Housing Authority-KETTI Investment Company Ltd., pointed to Nigeria’s 3.86% GDP growth in the last quarter of 2024—its fastest pace in three years—as evidence of progress. He projected growth to accelerate further in 2025, forecasting a range between 3.5% and 4.6%.
“This growth reflects the early impact of bold, sometimes difficult, decisions taken by President Tinubu. These reforms are necessary if Nigeria is to reposition itself for long-term prosperity,” he said.
Support for Benue’s Governor Alia
Ayom also used the occasion to urge the President to continue supporting Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, whom he praised for launching “grassroots-driven reforms” within just two years in office.
“The President needs committed, performing governors like Fr. Alia for his reforms to truly reach the grassroots,” Ayom said. “Fr. Alia has initiated and completed several impactful projects that are improving lives across Benue State.”
Call for national unity and Middle Belt inclusion
Ayom appealed to APC stakeholders and Nigerians across party lines to unite behind the President’s administration, describing national support as crucial for the success of Tinubu’s reform agenda.
Looking beyond 2031, the former presidential hopeful also encouraged the President to consider the Middle Belt region for Nigeria’s top office after completing his constitutionally permitted two terms.
“The Middle Belt has played a strategic role in our country’s unity and deserves fair consideration in future presidential transitions,” Ayom concluded.
