2026 World Cup: Ian Wright, Gary Neville back England to beat Argentina, reach final

Former England internationals Ian Wright and Gary Neville have tipped the Three Lions to defeat Argentina in the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

England booked their place in the last four after edging Norway 2-1 in extra time in the quarter-finals.

Thomas Tuchel’s side are now two wins away from lifting the World Cup for the first time since 1966.

Speaking after England’s victory over Norway, Wright said he believes the Three Lions have what it takes to overcome the South American champions.

“I think we will beat Argentina,” Wright said.

“The way they play and how narrow they are. I think we are going to block them and break them.”

Neville also expressed confidence in England’s chances, pointing to the team’s attacking quality and overall squad depth.

“With the centre backs they have, I can’t see us not scoring at least two goals. We’re faster, quicker, we’ve got a better squad,” he said.

The winner of the semi-final will advance to the 2026 World Cup final and move one step closer to football’s biggest prize.
